STEPHEN MINISTRY

Stephen Ministry is One-to-One Ministry by trained, caring Lay Ministers who have responded to Christ's call to "carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." (Gal. 6:2)

A Stephen Minister is a child of God who walks beside a hurting person; a caring Christian friend who really listens, a lay person who has received 50 hours of training in how to provide distinctively Christian care.

A Stephen Minister is not a counselor or therapist; a problem solver; a casual visitor.

How can you be involved? Do you have the gift of mercy, encouragement or intercession? Please, pray for our Stephen Ministers.

Help us stay sensitive to those who need caring support

Help make others aware of the support system available to them.

Consider God's direction as to whether you should become a Stephen Minister.

How can someone become a Stephen Minister? Begin by talking to one of our Stephen Leaders or Stephen Ministers. We will have a new class of Stephen Ministers beginning in September, 2002. If interested, please sign the sheet in the church or call 785-227-2167. You will be contacted by a Stephen Leader who can answer any questions you have.

God of mercy, you have blessed each of us with unique gifts and called us all to ministry. As we look to train a new class of Stephen Ministers, there are those among us whom you have blessed with gifts of compassion, patience, faith, mercy and encouragement. Work in the hearts of these individuals so that they may know if you are calling them now to Stephen Ministry. We ask this through the power of your Holy Spirit. AMEN.

If you know of someone who would like to talk to a Stephen Minister, please contact the church office at 785-227-2167 or look for information available in the church pews.
